History

Between Cambria and East Main.

Charleston Place is a community of townhomes on Charleston Lane and Salem Lane. Town water mains were laid for it in the town’s 2005 to 2006 fiscal year, and its homes went up from 2006 to 2009.

It sits between two of the town’s historic districts. About half a mile northwest is Cambria, the railroad town that grew up around the depot from the 1850s and was its own town from 1906 until it joined Christiansburg in the mid-1960s. About half a mile southwest is the East Main Street Historic District, the residential quarter that grew along the original road to Salem, with The Oaks, a Queen Anne house of 1893, at its corner of Park Street.

Timeline

  1. 1893The Oaks is built on East Main Street.
  2. 1906Cambria is incorporated as a town.
  3. 2006Water mains are laid (fiscal 2005 to 2006); the townhomes follow through 2009.

Good to know.

  • The road to Salem
