History
Five phases on the county line.
Walnut Creek lies just outside the Christiansburg town limits, in Montgomery County east of town. In 2005 the county’s supervisors rezoned 108 acres for it, with a cap of 157 single-family houses and 168 townhouses, to be built in five phases.
It has grown in sections ever since. The county’s records carry three plats under the name: Walnut Creek, The Ridge at Walnut Creek and The Preserve at Walnut Creek. Town water mains reached Walnut Creek and The Ridge in the town’s 2006 to 2007 fiscal year and The Preserve in 2009 to 2010.
The building continues. In 2025 the supervisors approved the first section of the third phase, 26 townhouse lots, and early in 2026 another section of 30 townhouse lots, with about half an acre of open space, went to the county planning commission.
