History

Leaves, oaks and a restored stream.

Oak Tree has grown phase by phase since its first homes went up in 1996; the county’s parcel records number its phases through thirteen. Water mains for phases seven through ten were laid in the town’s 2005 to 2006 fiscal year. It has more homes on record than any other neighborhood on this site.

Its streets follow two themes: leaves, in Blue Leaf, Bronze Leaf, Gold Leaf, Orange Leaf, Red Leaf and Silver Leaf, and oaks, in Pin Oak, Tall Oak, Twisted Oak and Willow Oak.

A stream runs through it. The Town restored about 825 feet of its channel along the Blue Leaf Drive and Willow Oak Drive cul-de-sacs to stop erosion and clean up the water, planting the banks with shrubs and trees. The project cost about $340,000, paid by the Town and a state Department of Environmental Quality grant, and by 2019 it was one of three stream restorations the Town had finished to cut the sediment reaching Crab Creek.

Timeline

  1. 1996The first homes are built.
  2. 2006Water mains for phases seven through ten are laid (fiscal 2005 to 2006).
  3. 2019The Blue Leaf stream restoration is complete.

Good to know.

  • Two street themes

Six streets are named for colors of leaves, four for kinds of oak.

  • A restored stream

About 825 feet of stream channel was rebuilt and replanted along the Blue Leaf and Willow Oak cul-de-sacs.
