History
An open hillside, built in six years.
The Kamran Drive community lies on the west side of Christiansburg, inside the town limits, on Kamran Drive, Warren Street and Warren Court. The county records it as two subdivisions side by side, Kamran Drive and Kamran West, about sixty small lots in all, most of them recorded in pairs, an A lot and a B lot, the usual pattern for homes built two to a building.
For most of the century this was open ground. In the federal survey of 1931 and 1932 it was farmland crossed by dirt roads, west of the built-up town. On the 1965 government map, drawn from aerial photographs taken in 1963, it is an open hillside on the north flank of a ridge a little over 2,200 feet high, above a small wooded stream, with a street of houses just to the east and a cemetery the map calls Shaffer Memorial to the south, near U.S. 11. The government revised the map in 1978 and again in 1983, and both times this hillside was still empty while new houses went up around it.

Then it filled almost at once. County records date the first homes, in Kamran West, to 1986, and every dated home in both subdivisions to the years 1986 through 1992, 54 of them in the 1990s. The plats are in the county’s Plat Books 14 and 15, books in use about 1988 to 1992. In the 2005 to 2006 fiscal year the Town repaved Kamran Drive and Warren Street.
