History
Five phases near the Starlite.
White Oaks is a community of townhomes built in at least five phases, most of them in the 1990s; in 2020 the Town approved combining three of its phase five lots into two for a duplex.
Its best-known neighbor is the Starlite Drive-In, about a third of a mile south, which opened in 1953 and, by the Town’s account, still runs as one of the few drive-in theaters left in the country. The state’s 1934 marker for the town, which says Christiansburg was first known as Hans Meadows, stands about four-tenths of a mile west on Roanoke Street.
