History
The forest of the old tales.
Sherwood Forest is a neighborhood of houses built from 1956 to 1987, with the 1970s the busiest decade, on Chinquapin Trail and Dogwood Lane. It shares its name with the forest of the Robin Hood tales, and so does a much newer neighbor: Robin Hood Estates, less than a mile to the north-northeast, whose streets are Robin Hood Drive and Little John Circle and whose houses all went up from 2010 on.
The town’s Kiwanis Park is about a fifth of a mile northeast. The state’s 1934 marker for Christiansburg, which says the town was first known as Hans Meadows, stands a little over half a mile northeast on Roanoke Street, and the Starlite Drive-In, opened in 1953, is about two-thirds of a mile east.
