Driving to campus
From I-81 Exit 118, take Exit 118B onto U.S. 460 West. It is a limited-access highway around Christiansburg to the campus, and from town, North Franklin Street (U.S. 460 Business) joins it without using I-81.
Driving means parking. Virginia Tech's relocation page links to its campus parking office; check permit options before you count on a space.
Taking the bus
- Two Town Trolley. Blacksburg Transit's TTH route runs seven days a week between Christiansburg's shopping district and Blacksburg, with stops at Uptown Christiansburg, Walmart, the Marketplace and LewisGale Hospital Montgomery. Its Blacksburg end is the Transit Center beside the Perry Street Parking Garage, the hub for BT routes on campus.
- Explorer to the Trolley. From a Christiansburg neighborhood, ride the Explorer Blue or Green route to the New River Valley Mall or Walmart stop and change to the Two Town Trolley. The Explorer runs weekdays 7 a.m. to 6:40 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6:40 p.m..
- The Smart Way. Valley Metro's Smart Way bus stops on Laurel Street in Christiansburg and at the campus Transit Center. It is the same bus that runs to Roanoke and its airport.

Biking the Huckleberry Trail
The paved Huckleberry Trail runs from the Christiansburg Recreation Center to mile 0 by the library in downtown Blacksburg. Riders can join it at the Recreation Center or at Uptown Christiansburg.
Before you buy
- Town limits. Homes inside Christiansburg pay $0.95 per $100 in 2026 real estate tax, county and town together, and get Town water, sewer and trash and a free Recreation Center membership. A Christiansburg mailing address alone does not tell you which side of the line a home is on. See property taxes.
- Schools. Christiansburg addresses are zoned for several different elementary schools, some outside town, depending on the street. See the schools guide.
- Timing. From a ratified contract to closing is about six weeks. If you start work on a set date, count back from it when you plan your search.
- Moving help. Virginia Tech Human Resources lists relocation resources for the New River Valley, including the Town of Christiansburg.
