History

The Mountain Top area.

Mountain Top Estates shares its name with the Mountain Top area east of Christiansburg, along U.S. Routes 11 and 460. When the state’s Commission on Local Government reviewed the town’s proposed annexation in 1987, it found that the Mountain Top area needed both sewer and better water service, and it recommended that the town extend sewer lines there within three years after annexation. By the Town’s account, the annexation of 1988 took in the top of Christiansburg Mountain.

The neighborhood’s houses on record began going up in 1987, and more than half were built in the 1990s. Two town parks are close by: Wayside Park, at the top of the mountain, and John Lemley Park, each about a third of a mile away.
